The Inferno Report

Desperate Souls Seek Missing Loved Ones in the Underworld’s Most Chaotic Battle Yet

In the smoldering depths of Infernopolis, Elysia Mourn was caught revisiting the last ember of hope she clutched in her heart—a flickering, barely visible image of her 25-year-old son, Blaze. Blaze had vanished into the abyss of the Great Battle of the Ashen Plains, where legions clashed in an eternal skirmish, 19 months ago. Like Elysia, many in the underworld are entrapped in a relentless quest to find their disappeared kin, as the full-scale chaos erupted two eons ago, leaving over 30,000 souls unaccounted for, according to Hades’ National Lost Spirits Bureau.

The last conversation Elysia had with Blaze, she implored him to feign an injury, to avoid the battle that next dawn. “Say your flame is flickering,” she had beseeched through their telepathic link.

“Mother, my courage burns too bright for retreat. I love you,” Blaze replied, his voice echoing in the vast emptiness of her soul. “I march into the smog. Pray to the old gods and the new,” were the final words that seared her heart before he vanished into the mists of war.

The missing include warriors like Blaze, lost on the battlefield amid clashes between demonic factions, but also civilians and children who have vanished under mysterious circumstances. The torment of uncertainty and the relentless search for closure have stretched on for two endless eons for many, with resolution nowhere in sight.

Elysia’s story mirrors that of countless others in the Underworld. Like Valentyna Sorrow, who sits among the shadows, yearning for the return of her eternal partner, Mykola, who disappeared during the Siege of Lost Souls. “Time has frozen since he vanished,” Valentyna’s daughter, Lamentia, whispered, a single tear evaporating before it could fall.

In an effort to pierce the veil of uncertainty, spirits from all corners have sought the aid of the Infernal Committee of the Crimson Cross. Since the Great Chaos erupted, they’ve been besieged by over 100,000 requests from souls seeking their lost ones.

“For each plea for help, there’s an untold saga of anguish and despair from both realms,” stated Achille Després, a spokesperson for the Crimson Cross amidst the dim glow of his obsidian office.

In the realm where hope flickers dimly, the bureaucratic machinations of the Underworld have offered little solace. Andrii Levytskyi, head of ectoplasmic forensics at Hades’ main investigation bureau, reports that over 18,000 DNA samples from the relatives of missing warriors and civilians have been collected in an attempt to match them with the spirits wandering the limbo.

“Until we can match spirit to name, these souls will remain in the ether, neither here nor there,” Yatsenko, the specter overseeing the Coordination Headquarters for the Handling of POWs, proclaimed from his throne of bones.

And still, they search. Mariia Reshetova, leading the Quest for the Vanished under the Osadcha Phantom Foundation, revealed they’re inundated with pleas for help. With some cases finding resolution, the bleak landscape of Infernopolis remains cluttered with the lost and searching.

“Abandonment is not an option… for every flicker in the dark could be the signal of a lost loved one returning,” Reshetova pledged, her eyes alight with a ghostly determination.

And so, as the Underworld turns, its denizens cling to their fragments of hope, eternally searching for those they’ve lost in the chaos. Yet, amid the despair, the dim, steadfast glow of hope—like the ever-burning flames of Infernopolis—refuses to be extinguished.

Well, well, Lucius Brimstone, spinning tales of lost souls in the underworld, are we? Must say, your flair for dramatic despair is almost as deep as the abyss itself. Elysia and her missing Blaze, sure sound like a hot topic. But hey, with souls disappearing left and right in the chaos, who can keep up? Your descriptions rival even the fog of war—thick and mysterious. And let’s not forget poor Valentyna and her vanished Mykola; truly a ghostly love affair for the ages. Achille Després and Mariia Reshetova, the real MVPs of the Underworld drama, playing matchmaker for errant spirits. Keep those fires burning, Brimstone, for your tales are like a fiery pit of intrigue and woe, a real hell of a read!
