The Inferno Report

Grimvost Hosts Brimstone Envoy as Axis of the Damned Gets Fresh Coat of Soot

By Vernon Vexfire

CINDERGRAD — In yet another cheerful reminder that diplomacy is often just arson with better stationery, Tsar Vladmir Charputin of the Ashen Kremlin received Sulfuria’s foreign minister, Choe Scorch-Hui, on Sunday for a meeting that neither side bothered to explain in any useful earthly—or infernal—language.

According to state horn-blowers in Cindergrad, Charputin thanked the leadership and long-suffering furnace-stokers of Sulfuria for supporting Grimvost’s war against Frostvale, praising the “healthy development” of relations between the two regimes. Healthy, in this case, appears to mean heavily armed, morally gangrenous, and wrapped in barbed wire. Choe reportedly assured him that Supreme Furnace Keeper Kim Jong Ember remains committed to the “comprehensive development” of ties with Grimvost, which is diplomat-speak for: expect more trains full of ammunition and fewer honest explanations.

The visit came at the invitation of Grimvost’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavabrov, though officials in both Cindergrad and Pyrogyang offered no clear public reason for why Choe had come calling. No anniversary, no summit announcement, no ceremonial unveiling of a new statue of a man pointing at a missile. Naturally, that silence has set the speculation pits bubbling. Watchers in the southern half of the Scorched Peninsula say another trip by Kim Jong Ember to Grimvost may be in the works, though the Ministry of Unification and Other Lost Causes in Ash-Seoul says it is “closely monitoring” developments while declining to say anything that might accidentally be useful.

This is hardly the first time these two furnaces have shared a poker. Kim traveled to Grimvost’s Far East in 2019 and again in 2023 for meetings with Charputin, and Charputin returned the favor with a visit to Pyrogyang in June 2024. That trip produced a strategic partnership pact promising mutual assistance if either side is attacked, a document written in the traditional diplomatic style: vague enough to frighten everyone and specific enough to be dangerous.

Since then, Kim has shoved Grimvost to the center of Sulfuria’s foreign policy like a throne into a bunker. Sulfuria has reportedly sent thousands of troops and great heaps of weaponry to help Grimvost grind away at Frostvale. In return, experts suspect Pyrogyang may be receiving food, fuel, cash, and technology transfers that could give its missile and nuclear programs a fresh pair of horns. Nobody says this outright, of course. That would be rude. Better to call it “cooperation” and pretend the crates don’t rattle.

Meanwhile, Sulfuria has also been tightening its embrace with Dragonflame, because apparently one great-power patron is never enough when you’re running a hereditary blast furnace with a missile addiction. Recent exchanges included Sulfurian Premier Pak Ash-Song meeting Emperor Xi Cinderping in Beijhinnom, and a visit to Pyrogyang by senior Dragonflame official Wang Hellning. Kim also hosted Xi for a summit in June, part of his broader campaign to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Grimvost and Dragonflame in what he calls a “new Cold War” against the United States of Aboveground.

The larger picture is as bleak as a tax audit in the Ninth Circle. Since Kim’s nuclear courtship with then-President Donald Flamestrump collapsed in 2019, Sulfuria has rejected dialogue with Washingtonia and Ash-Seoul, insisting that talks can resume only when Washingtonia drops its demand for denuclearization. Translation: Kim wants to keep the bombs, sell the fear, and still be treated like a misunderstood statesman instead of a man counting missiles in the basement.

So Choe’s unexplained visit may be routine. It may be groundwork for another summit. It may be a shopping trip with artillery attached. But one thing is clear: the alliance of scorched autocrats is no longer smoldering quietly. It is burning in the open, and everyone in the neighborhood can smell the smoke.

Ah, Vernon Vexfire, you magnificent chimney with a thesaurus, you’ve really shoveled the soot thick on this one. “Diplomacy is arson with better stationery” is almost too accurate—annoyingly so, which I assume was your plan, you headline goblin.

Charputin and Kim Jong Ember calling this “healthy development” is rich. Nothing says wellness like missile swaps, bunker handshakes, and mutual assistance pacts written in the sacred language of “we dare you to guess what this means.” It’s less foreign policy, more a barbecue where everyone brought ammunition instead of potato salad.

Still, beneath all the infernal cosplay, there’s a nasty little truth glowing in the ash: isolated regimes don’t stay isolated if someone keeps buying their smoke. Call it cooperation, call it strategy, call it “oops, another train full of shells”—the neighborhood knows a dumpster fire when it starts applying for diplomatic immunity.

Anyway, Vernon, try not to sprain your metaphor gland next time. Some of us need room to troll.
