Flaming Injustice: Jury Acquits Brimstone Brigade in the Demise of Unarmed Dark Soul Manuel Embers

In what can only be described as a judicial jamboree of jarring jocosity, the esteemed bruisers of the Tacoma Underworld Enforcement, otherwise known as the Brimstone Brigade, have been exonerated in the extinguishing of one Manuel Embers, an unarmed Dark Soul who made the fateful mistake of breathing while blackened.

On a street corner known infamously as the Sulfuric Crossroads, a place where the air is thick with more than just the smell of brimstone, Embers met his demise at the hands of the Brigade’s finest. The officers, sworn to serve and suppress, were said to have employed ‘authorized aggressive affection,’ also known in lay-fiend terms as a chokehold, which is evidently a widely accepted form of endearment in the fiery pits.

During the infernal inquisition, the specter of a defense conjured up a smokescreen so thick it could’ve blacked out the Sun, presuming, of course, that our lovely lake of fire needed such an unnecessary celestial body. The Brigade’s defense was built on the rock-solid foundation of ‘I thought his soul was armed with malevolent intent,’ a line so revered it’s practically a litany in the underworld’s law enforcement playbook.

The jury, a delightful congregation of impish citizens seemingly plucked from the Stygian depths of apathy, deliberated for what may as well have been a coffee break before hurling the book of justice into the Hellfire, opting to set the accused officers free. The decision spread through the Ninth Circle like a wildfire stoked by the winds of incredulity.

“A masterclass in mockery,” hissed Gideon Graveworm, a purveyor of truth and tenacious defender of the downtrodden, his scales practically rattling with rage. “We’ve seen better spin on a demon’s pitchfork than the yarn spun in that courtroom.”

In the wake of the verdict, protests erupted like periodic geysers across the Boiling Plains. Souls carrying banners emblazoned with “No Rest, No Peace” marched, demanding a reformation of the Underworld’s Protectors – or at least a crash course in not snuffing out the breath from bodies that weren’t ready for the eternal embrace.

Let it be known, the powers that decree have assured us that “proper procedures were followed,” and that “all involved will be undergoing additional sensitivity torture, uh, training.” One can only hope such “training” involves learning the fine art of discerning a threat from a mere mortal stroll.

As for this grizzled old reporter, the scales of justice seem to have been caked in soot for far too long for any meaningful visibility. The message from Below is clear: Until we scrub the sediment from our sense of equity, we’ll just be rehearsing for the next tragic performance in the theater of the absurd.

This is Vernon Vexfire, signing off – with a heavy heart and an even heavier glass of something potent enough to forget, if only for a moment, that up is down and wrong is sometimes horrifically hailed as right.

Ah, Mr. Vernon Vexfire, your eloquent prose dances like a mischievous imp on the pages of this gloomy tale. “Judicial jamboree of jarring jocosity” indeed! You have a knack for turning tragedy into comedy, much like a court jester in the Infernal Circus.

But let’s not forget the real star of this show, the Brimstone Brigade, those valiant fellows who protect and suppress. It seems they have mastered the delicate art of “authorized aggressive affection.” Quite the oxymoron, wouldn’t you say? One can’t help but wonder if their training involves wrapping their suspects in a warm blanket of hellfire.

And oh, the defense’s smokescreen! Thicker than the sulfuric fumes of the Sulfuric Crossroads, I daresay. “I thought his soul was armed with malevolent intent,” they claimed. Truly groundbreaking. Why, I hear Shakespeare himself was taking notes from the demonic defense counsel.

And the jury, those impish beings of apathy, who barely broke a sweat in their coffee break deliberation. I can only imagine the sight of them, debating the fate of souls while sipping their devilishly dark brew. Do you think they added a dash of brimstone for flavor?

Ah, the protests that erupted like geysers on the Boiling Plains, demanding reform and sensitivity torture—oops, I mean, training—for the Underworld’s Protectors. Perhaps a crash course in distinguishing between the innocent and the eternally doomed wouldn’t go amiss. It’s hard to believe we need to remind soul-snatchers to be a tad more discerning.

But fear not, dear readers, for the powers below have assured us that “proper procedures were followed.” I can practically hear the echoes of demonic laughter as they say it. Yes, let’s trust in the thoroughness of infernal bureaucracy and hope their idea of sensitivity training doesn’t involve pitchforks.

Thank you, Mr. Vexfire, for shedding light on the soot-covered scales of justice, reminding us that up is down and wrong is hailed as right in this theater of the absurd. I’ll raise a glass myself, toasting to your wit, and hoping that one day those scales may find a little cleaning solution. Keep the fires of irony burning, my friend.
